Yes, you can change CPAP settings remotely, but only on connected ResMed machines enrolled in remote monitoring, and only after your doctor orders the change.
The change travels through ResMed AirView, the cloud-based platform certified professionals use to view therapy data and, with a doctor's oversight, adjust settings on compatible ResMed CPAP, APAP, and BiPAP machines. It reaches your machine over the built-in cellular connection, so you never have to ship it anywhere.
Sleeplay's respiratory therapy team offers this as the ResMed AirView setting service. Below you will find which settings can change, which machines qualify, what stays in your own hands, and what the research says about remote monitoring.
At a glance
- Remote changes happen through ResMed AirView, the provider platform your machine reports to over its own cellular connection. No Wi-Fi or phone is needed. [1]
- Any change to a prescribed setting needs a doctor's order, because CPAP machines are prescription devices under federal law. [2]
- A provider can only change settings for a patient under active remote monitoring in AirView. [3]
- The AirMini and the Card-to-Cloud versions of the AirSense 10 and AirCurve 10 cannot be adjusted remotely.
- You keep your comfort controls: humidity and ramp time stay adjustable on an AirSense 11 in My Options. [4]
Can CPAP Settings Be Changed Remotely?
Yes. A connected ResMed CPAP or BiPAP sends therapy data to ResMed AirView over its built-in cellular connection, and a provider using AirView can send new settings back to the machine. Changes require a doctor's order and active remote monitoring, and they work only on compatible ResMed machines, not the AirMini.
- ResMed describes AirView as a system that lets providers "monitor and change your patients' device settings remotely without having to leave your desk". [5]
- The manufacturer's own US page lists this as a feature: "Some device settings, such as pressure relief, ramp and humidification are remotely accessible". [6]
- Prescription settings travel the same way: ResMed's setup checklist tells providers to apply the patient's prescription 'with AirView' and lists 'AirView remote prescription settings' among its remote tools. [7]
- Remote changes are tied to monitoring. ResMed puts it plainly: "Remote settings changes require active remote monitoring in AirView". [3]
"connecting with your clinician via the 4G cellular modem so they can track your progress remotely and change your settings remotely"
Nick (Uncle Nicko), CPAP Reviews
Who Can Order a Remote Setting Change?
Only a licensed practitioner, usually your doctor or sleep specialist, can order a change to a prescribed CPAP setting. Federal law classifies CPAP machines as prescription devices, so a supplier or respiratory therapist applies the change in AirView only after that order exists. The machine does not change its prescription on its own.
- The federal rule on prescription devices (21 CFR 801.109) covers devices that are "not safe except under the supervision of a practitioner licensed by law" and requires the label 'Rx only' or 'Caution: Federal law restricts this device to sale by or on the order of a practitioner. [2]
- Sleeplay's service follows the same rule: "All changes must follow a prescription issued by a doctor".
- Not everyone with an AirView login can change settings. ResMed says the account administrator "must add this responsibility to your user account first". [8]
- To see how your original pressure was set in the first place, read about how a CPAP titration sleep study works.
"we will reach out to your doctor so they can send us a prescription to make those changes, and we can do them remotely. We can change settings, we can change humidity settings remotely"
Lilly Perez, Respiratory Therapist, Sleeplay
Which CPAP Settings Can Be Changed Remotely?
On a connected ResMed machine, a provider can remotely change fixed pressure or autoCPAP pressures, ramp time, humidification, expiratory pressure relief (EPR), and mask type. Pressure and mask type are prescription settings that require a doctor's order. Humidity and ramp time are comfort settings you can also adjust yourself.
| Setting | Can a provider change it remotely? | Can you change it yourself on the machine? |
|---|---|---|
| Pressure (fixed, or minimum and maximum in AutoSet) | Yes, only with a doctor's order | No. It is part of your prescription |
| Mask type setting | Yes | Set by your provider |
| Ramp time | Yes [6] | Yes on the AirSense 11: Off, 5 to 45 minutes, or Auto, in My Options [4] |
| Humidification | Yes [6] | Yes on the AirSense 11: Off or levels 1 to 8, in My Options [4] |
| EPR (ResMed calls it pressure relief) | Yes [6] | Listed in the myAir Therapy Control feature [9] |
- Humidity: ResMed tells AirSense 11 users, "If you're getting a dry nose or mouth, turn up the humidity. If you're getting any moisture in your mask, turn down the humidity". [4]
- Ramp time: It is "the period during which the pressure increases from a low start air pressure to your prescribed treatment pressure". [4]
- EPR: Our guide explains what EPR on a CPAP does and who benefits from it, especially if you experience difficulty exhaling against incoming air.
- Pressure that feels too strong: Read the signs your CPAP pressure is too high, such as aerophagia, and remember that any pressure adjustment still needs a doctor's order.
- Anything beyond comfort settings: ResMed's own advice to AirSense 11 users is, "Your medical equipment store can help make any other necessary adjustments". [4]
How Does a Remote Change Reach Your Machine?
A connected ResMed machine automatically uploads therapy data to AirView about one hour after you stop therapy, as long as it has power, cellular coverage, and airplane mode is off. Your provider reviews that data, and once a doctor orders a change, they send the new settings back through AirView over the same connection.
- You finish your night. ResMed Air series machines "contain internal SIM cards that transmit data automatically into AirView" and upload "1 hour after the patient stops using the device". The machine must be "powered on (not in Airplane mode) and in a cellular coverage area". [10]
- You do nothing. "There is no need to connect to your home network or cell phone". [1]
- Your provider reviews the data. They review it in AirView and, with your doctor, decide whether to change a setting.
- The doctor issues the order. The provider then applies it in AirView. [7]
- The new settings reach your machine. They go back over the cellular connection.
What Does Your Provider See in AirView?
- AirView "reports provide up to 365 days of therapy data and up to 90 days of detailed data". [6]
- myAir and AirView split the job: "myAir helps patients self-monitor device usage, while AirView gives providers access to comprehensive therapy data to track progress". [11]
- On AirSense 11 and AirCurve 11 machines, Care Check-In lets you answer questions during your first 30 days. "If they opt in, their responses will be visible to care providers in AirView". [6]
- Remote Assist, which lets a provider troubleshoot the machine from a distance, "is only available with AirSense 11, AirCurve 11, AirSense 10 and AirCurve 10 devices". [6]
- If you want to study your own detailed data and track issues like CPAP mask leaks, our guide to reading OSCAR CPAP charts shows how.
Which ResMed Machines Support Remote Setting Changes?
The ResMed AirSense 11, AirCurve 11, cellular AirSense 10, and cellular AirCurve 10 all send data to AirView and can receive remote setting changes. The AirMini sends data to AirView but cannot be changed remotely, and the Card-to-Cloud AirSense 10 and AirCurve 10 have no cellular connection.
Prices below are the regular Sleeplay price (price checked September 25, 2026).

- If you are choosing a machine and want remote support later, the AirSense 11 is the natural pick. You can browse AirSense 11 mask bundles if you want to buy the machine with a mask.
"there's a cellular modem in the machine that will track everything for you. It's attached to [myAir], can go on [AirView], which a lot of the clinicians or suppliers will have access to"
James Curles, Sleep Coach, Sleeplay
When Is a Remote Setting Change Not Possible?
A remote change is not possible on a ResMed AirMini, on Card-to-Cloud AirSense 10 and AirCurve 10 machines, or on an AirStart 10. It also cannot happen if the machine has no cellular signal, is in airplane mode, is outside the United States, or isn't enrolled in active remote monitoring.
ResMed AirMini
- ResMed is direct about it: "You cannot change the AirMini settings remotely. You can only change the settings when the AirMini is paired to a smartphone running the AirMini app. You must have physical access to your patient's AirMini to make changes". [13]
- The AirMini app "replaces the traditional machine user interface". Providers use it to enter prescription settings, and patients use it for comfort features 'such as Ramp Time, Pressure Relief, SmartStart, and SmartStop'. [15] Our walkthrough on how to set up your ResMed AirMini shows the app in action.
Card-to-Cloud AirSense 10 and AirCurve 10
- These versions store data on an SD card only, and myAir is "currently not available" for them. [9]
- Without a cellular connection, there is nothing to send a remote change through. The SD card has to go to the provider.
"the only difference is that this machine does not have cellular connectivity"
Lilly Perez, Respiratory Therapist, Sleeplay
"it doesn't have access to [AirView] modem wise, okay, it's not cellular"
James Curles, Sleep Coach, Sleeplay
AirStart 10
- The AirStart 10 has no built-in wireless, so myAir is not available. [16] Its SD card "can be used to upload patient therapy and device data into AirView". [14]
No signal, airplane mode, or travel outside the US
- Data transmits only "when therapy has stopped for at least 1 hour, and the patient is within a cellular coverage area with the device NOT in "Airplane mode"". [17]
- US machines are "built for US mobile networks. If the device is outside of the US, the data cannot be transmitted to the cloud". [18]
- Therapy itself does not depend on the signal. The Sleeplay AirSense 10 AutoSet listing says: "Therapy continues normally without Wi-Fi or cell coverage; remote data upload simply resumes once a signal is available".
Not enrolled in remote monitoring
- Again from ResMed: "Remote settings changes require active remote monitoring in AirView". [3]
myAir vs AirView: Who Can Change What?
myAir is ResMed's free app for patients, and AirView is the platform providers use. In myAir, you see your own nightly results and, on an AirSense 11, adjust a few comfort settings. In AirView, a provider reviews your therapy data over time and applies prescription changes your doctor has ordered.
| myAir | AirView | |
|---|---|---|
| Who uses it | You, the patient | Your provider: clinical users (physicians) and equipment provider staff |
| What it shows | Your nightly score and usage; data appears 'shortly after each therapy session' | Up to 365 days of therapy data and up to 90 days of detailed data |
| Settings you can change there | On AirSense 11 (Therapy Control): humidity, pressure relief, ramp time and tube temperature | Prescription and comfort settings, applied by the provider after a doctor's order |
| Machines | AirSense and AirCurve only; not Card-to-Cloud models | AirSense 11, AirCurve 11, AirSense 10, AirCurve 10 and AirMini (data) |
| Security | ResMed states myAir complies with HIPAA and HITECH | Password protection, role-based access, and data encryption; HIPAA compliant per ResMed |
Sources: ResMed myAir [9], ResMed myAir for health professionals [11], ResMed AirView [6], AirView user roles [19], and myAir data protection [20].
- ResMed reports that "Patients who use myAir to self-monitor have shown 17% higher therapy adherence rates compared to patients managed through AirView alone". [11] That figure comes from a 2018 ResMed-supported analysis, covered in the research section below.
- For what each part of the myAir score means, see our guide on how to read your myAir score.
"The app immediately syncs with your CPAP via Bluetooth or built-in cellular"

Can Someone Change Your CPAP Settings Without You Knowing?
Not the prescribed settings without a doctor's order. Remote changes require a prescription, active remote monitoring, and an AirView user with permission to make changes. ResMed also notes that patient data is available in AirView upon patient consent, and your own comfort controls stay on your machine.
| Concern | What the sources say |
|---|---|
| Anyone can change my settings | A prescription is required [2]; only AirView users given that responsibility by their administrator can make changes [8] |
| My data is open to anyone | AirView access is limited to clinical users and equipment provider administrators [19], with "password protection, role-based access and data encryption" [6] |
| My data goes to AirView without my say | ResMed's provider checklist: "Patient data available in AirView upon patient consent" [7] |
| My machine is always transmitting | It uploads after therapy has stopped for at least 1 hour, only with coverage and airplane mode off [17] |
| I lose control of my comfort settings | On an AirSense 11, Humidifier settings and ramp time stay in My Options for you to change [4] |
Does Remote Monitoring Help CPAP Therapy?
Research suggests it does. In a randomized trial, patients whose CPAP use was telemonitored with automatic feedback used their machines longer at 90 days than patients in usual care, and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine found clinically significant adherence gains with telemonitoring interventions. These studies measured remote monitoring in general.
- The Tele-OSA trial: This randomized trial followed 556 patients prescribed CPAP in four groups. At 90 days, average daily use was 3.8 hours with usual care, 4.0 hours with web education alone, 4.4 hours with telemonitoring plus automated feedback messages, and 4.8 hours with telemonitoring, feedback, and web education combined. Medicare adherence rates were 53.5%, 61.0%, 65.6%, and 73.2%. [21]
- The AASM review: A systematic review and meta-analysis for the American Academy of Sleep Medicine found "a clinically significant improvement in PAP adherence with the use of educational, behavioral, troubleshooting, and telemonitoring interventions". [22]
- A 2023 meta-analysis: Across 18 randomized trials, telemonitoring added 0.76 hours of CPAP use per night compared with standard care, with moderate certainty of evidence. [23]
- A large ResMed-supported analysis: A retrospective look at 128,037 patients in AirView and myAir found that 87.3% of patients using ResMed's patient engagement tools (myAir) met adherence criteria versus 70.4% with usual care monitoring, and used their machines 5.9 versus 4.9 hours per night. The authors say randomized trials may be needed before strong recommendations. [24]
- Telehealth messaging: One program reached similar adherence to scheduled calls with 59% less coaching time per patient. [25]
Several of these studies include ResMed-affiliated authors, and none of them measured Sleeplay's service.
How to Request a Remote Setting Change with Sleeplay
Sleeplay's AirView service is for ResMed machines only, and every change it makes follows a prescription issued by your doctor. Here is how it works.
- Check that your machine is a connected ResMed model from the table above (such as an auto CPAP like the AirSense 11, AirCurve 11, or a cellular AirSense 10 or AirCurve 10).
- Sign up for the service. For the first 60 days, the Sleeplay team monitors your machine use to make sure everything works as expected.
- If sleep therapy is not working to its full potential, Sleeplay's respiratory therapists reach out with tips to get you on track.
- When you want a setting changed, ask the team. Changes include pressure range settings, ramp time, humidification settings, and EPR settings.
- Every change follows your doctor's prescription, and the settings are sent to your machine remotely, with no need to ship your device.
Safety note
Do not change your prescribed pressure on your own. Your doctor set it based on your sleep study, and you need your doctor's order to set a new pressure. See how a CPAP titration sleep study sets your pressure.
"Your doctor sets your pressure based on your diagnosis. You shouldn't adjust it yourself unless they instruct you to do so."
Lilly Perez, Respiratory Therapist, Sleeplay
The Bottom Line
Remote CPAP setting changes are real and routine on connected ResMed machines: your machine reports to AirView over its own cellular connection, and a healthcare provider can send back new CPAP pressure settings, ramp, humidity, or EPR settings once your doctor orders them. The AirMini and Card-to-Cloud machines are the exceptions. If you use a connected ResMed machine and want a setting adjusted without shipping it anywhere, contact Sleeplay's respiratory therapy team to adjust your settings remotely, or shop ResMed CPAP machines if you are choosing a connected machine.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I adjust the pressure on my CPAP machine myself?
Not your prescribed pressure. Your doctor sets it based on your diagnosis, and Sleeplay respiratory therapist Lilly Perez advises against changing it unless your doctor instructs you to. You can adjust comfort settings such as humidity and ramp time in the AirSense 11 My Options menu.
Does airplane mode stop my CPAP from sending data?
Yes. ResMed says it transmits data to AirView only when the machine has power, cellular coverage, and airplane mode is off, about an hour after you stop therapy. Your therapy itself runs normally, and uploads resume once the machine is back online.
Does my ResMed CPAP need Wi-Fi for remote changes?
No. ResMed Air series machines contain an internal SIM card and connect automatically when they are in a cellular coverage area. You do not need home Wi-Fi or your phone for the machine to reach AirView.
Will remote monitoring work if I travel outside the US?
No. ResMed says machines sold in the US are built for the US mobile network, so data cannot be transmitted to the cloud while the device is outside the US. Therapy continues, and your provider sees new data once you return.
Who can see my CPAP data in AirView?
Only your care team. ResMed limits AirView to clinical users, such as physicians and equipment provider staff, and protects it with passwords, role-based access, and encryption. Patients follow their own data in the myAir app instead.
Can a new AirCurve 10 ST receive a prescription through AirView right away?
Not before its first night. ResMed notes that AirCurve 10 ST and ST-A machines must run at least one therapy session before they can accept a new prescription from AirView, so providers usually set the first prescription on the machine itself.
Can I undo a setting my provider changed remotely?
It depends on the setting. Humidity and ramp time stay adjustable by you in My Options on an AirSense 11. A prescribed setting, such as pressure, changes again only with your doctor's order.
How soon does my provider see last night's data?
Usually the same morning. ResMed says data uploads to AirView once therapy has stopped for at least one hour, as long as the machine has power, cellular coverage, and airplane mode off. The myAir app also shows your data shortly after each session.
