CPAP Filters

Choosing the right CPAP filter starts with knowing which type your machine uses. Most modern CPAPs (AirSense 10, AirSense 11, DreamStation) run on disposable filters that need swapping every two to four weeks, or sooner if they look dirty or discolored. Older and specialty machines use reusable filters that you rinse between uses and replace about every six months, or when they start to tear.

Browse both types here: standard and hypoallergenic disposables, reusable foam and pollen filters, and pre-packaged kits with several months of supply. Filters are organized by machine family, including AirSense, AirMini, DreamStation, Luna, Transcend, and Fisher & Paykel.

If you are not sure how often to swap yours, our guide to how often to change CPAP supplies breaks down each part by lifespan. To pair filters with matching tubing, cushions, or cleaning supplies, visit the parent CPAP Supplies collection.

FAQs

What does a CPAP filter do?

It traps dust, pollen, pet dander, and other particles before they reach your machine and your airway, so the air you breathe stays cleaner and your machine stays protected. It is about hygiene and keeping your equipment running well.

How often should I change my CPAP filter?

Replace disposable filters about every two to four weeks, or sooner if you have pets, smoke, or a dusty home. Reusable foam filters are rinsed between uses and replaced about every six months, or when they start to tear.

What is the difference between disposable and reusable filters?

Disposable filters are a fine, paper-like material that traps small particles and is thrown away when dirty. Reusable filters are foam, and you rinse and air-dry them between uses until it is time to replace them. Many machines use one or both.

Which filter fits my machine?

Filters are model-specific, so match yours to your machine: AirSense 10, AirSense 11, AirMini, DreamStation, Luna, Transcend, and Fisher & Paykel each use their own. Check your machine manual or the product details, and reach out to us if you are not sure.

Do CPAP bacteria filters really work?

Inline bacteria filters add an extra layer that catches finer particles between your machine and hose. They are optional and not required for everyday use; most people are fine with the standard filter their machine takes.

Can I wash a disposable CPAP filter?

No. Disposable filters are single-use and should be replaced, not washed. Only reusable foam filters can be rinsed and reused, and you should let them air-dry fully before putting them back.

How do I clean and reuse a foam filter?

Rinse it under running water, squeeze out the excess, and let it air-dry completely before returning it to your machine. Replace it about every six months, or sooner if it tears or stops looking clean.

Are hypoallergenic filters worth it?

If you have allergies or a dusty or pet-friendly home, a hypoallergenic filter traps finer particles than a standard filter. It fits the same slot, and you replace it on the same schedule.

Should I use a filter on my CPAP machine?

Yes. Every CPAP and BiPAP machine pulls in room air, and the filter is what keeps dust, pollen, and other particles out of that airflow before it reaches you. Running the machine without one, or with a dirty one, means less protection for your airway and for the machine's motor.
