CPAP machines come with a six-foot hose, a power cord, a filter, and a user guide. Most manufacturers include a carrying case that is designed specifically for their equipment. CPAP, APAP, and BiPAP machines do not come with a mask. CPAP masks must be purchased separately.
To see the list of what specifically comes with each machine, check the product page and look for the “What’s Included” section.
Yes, your CPAP machine does require regular maintenance to ensure it functions properly and remains hygienic.
Here are some key maintenance tasks:
Daily Cleaning: Clean your mask, tubing, and humidifier chamber daily with warm water and mild soap to prevent the buildup of bacteria and mold. Rinse thoroughly and allow them to air dry. For extra convenience, try a CPAP Cleaning Machine.
Filter Replacement: Replace the filters regularly—typically every 1-3 months depending on the type of filter (disposable or reusable). Check the manufacturer's guidelines for specific recommendations.
Choosing the right CPAP machine depends on several factors, including your specific sleep apnea condition, personal preferences, and any recommendations from your healthcare provider. Here's how you can determine which CPAP machine is right for you.
To troubleshoot common CPAP machine issues:
Mask Leaks: Adjust the fit or try a different mask type or size.
Dry Mouth/Nose: Use a heated humidifier or increase humidity settings.
Pressure Feels Too High/Low: Check or adjust your machine’s settings, or consult one of our CPAP experts.
Noise Issues: Ensure connections are tight, replace filters, or check for worn-out parts.
Machine Not Turning On: Verify the power source and inspect the cord for damage.
Common side effects of using a CPAP machine include:
Dryness or congestion: Use a heated humidifier or nasal spray.
Mask discomfort: Adjust the fit or try a different mask type.
Skin irritation: Use mask liners or adjust straps.
Aerophagia (swallowing air): Lower the pressure or use an APAP machine.
Claustrophobia: Start with short sessions while awake to get used to the mask.

Yes, you can travel with your CPAP machine. Consider getting a travel-sized CPAP machine if you travel frequently. These are smaller, lighter, and easier to pack.
Here are some tips and considerations to ensure a smooth experience:
Air Travel: Bring your CPAP machine as a carry-on item. Most airlines do not count it as part of your carry-on luggage allowance since it's considered a medical device.
Power Considerations: Ensure you have the proper adapters and converters if traveling internationally. Shop power solutions.
Cleaning supplies: pack CPAP wipes to maintain your machine during your stay.
Medical Documentation: Carry a copy of your CPAP prescription and a note from your doctor, especially if you're traveling internationally, in case you need to explain the device to security or customs officials.

Sleep apnea is a potentially serious sleep disorder where breathing is disrupted repeatedly during sleep. The "apnea" in sleep apnea refers to a pause of breath that lasts at least ten seconds.
This condition occurs when the muscles in the back of the throat fail to keep the airway open, or when the brain fails to properly control breathing during sleep.
Common symptoms of sleep apnea include:
Sleep apnea can have several negative effects on your health. Individuals with this condition may find that they are always tired or sleepy during the day. This can interfere with daily activities and decrease your overall quality of life. Sleep apnea has been linked to obesity and high blood pressure, which increase the strain on your heart.
A continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machine is most commonly used in the treatment of sleep apnea, a respiratory condition that causes spontaneous pauses in breathing while asleep. CPAP is a mode of respiratory ventilation where air pressure is increased in the user’s throat to prevent it from collapsing while inhaling. A CPAP machine manages sleep apnea and helps users achieve a good night’s sleep.
Similar to a CPAP machine, a BiPAP machine delivers pressurized air to the user’s airways via a mask. However, it does so with bi-level positive airway pressure, meaning the pressure is delivered on both the inhale and exhale as opposed to the single pressure delivered by a CPAP machine.
Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) masks and headgear come in many styles and sizes to comfortably treat your sleep apnea. Everyone has different needs, preferences and face shapes, and sometimes you will need to try different mask styles before you find the one that works the best for you.
There are 3 main types of masks:
Full Face Mask: These cover both your nose and your mouth. We recommend this to anyone who breathes with their mouth open or anyone who has frequent problems with allergies and nasal congestion.
Nasal Mask: These only cover your nose. Many CPAP users prefer this style because they are not as heavy as a full-face mask, yet they still retain stability.
Nasal Pillow Mask: These fit in your nostrils and are the smallest and most minimal of the 3 mask styles. We recommend this style to CPAP users experiencing skin irritation since they have the least amount of contact with your face.
Fitting a mask properly depends on your facial structure and sleep position. Facial muscles change when you lie down and relax even further once you are asleep, so it is always best to fit the mask in your usual sleeping position. It is important not to over-tighten your mask. Doing so may be a sign that you have the wrong cushion size or an incorrectly adjusted forehead support.
If you experience difficulties in fitting your mask, please refer to your mask user guide for complete filing instructions or call us and we will be more than happy to assist you.
Please refer to the troubleshooting section in your mask user guide. Mask leaks may indicate one of several things, including:
Worn-out mask (needs replacement)Contact our CPAP experts to determine which of the above factors is interfering with the proper fitting of your mask.
For specific instructions on cleaning your mask, please refer to your mask user guide.

Common signs of sleep apnea include excessive daytime sleepiness, loud snoring, waking up in the middle of the night gasping for air, dry mouth, morning headaches, irritability, reduced focus. Learn more about sleep apnea and how to treat it.
Untreated sleep apnea results in a poor quality of life, which entails health consequences that could shorten the lifespan. Learn more here.
Sleep apnea is usually diagnosed through a sleep study, which can be done in a sleep lab or at home with a Home Sleep Test.
Sleep apnea can be caused by factors such as obesity, enlarged tonsils, a narrow airway, or a family history of the condition. It can also be related to lifestyle factors like smoking and alcohol consumption.
While there's no cure for sleep apnea, it can be effectively managed with treatments like CPAP therapy, lifestyle changes, weight loss, and, in some cases, surgery.
Lifestyle changes such as losing weight, quitting smoking, avoiding alcohol before bed, and sleeping on your side can help reduce sleep apnea symptoms.
Practice good sleep hygiene habits and consider talking to a sleep coach.
