The ResMed AirTouch F40 is a new full-face CPAP mask that puts a soft ComfiSoft fabric cushion on the same compact, under-the-nose design as the AirFit F40. ResMed says it will be available in the U.S. beginning October 28, 2026, and its cushion fits the AirFit F40, so current F40 users can try the fabric without changing masks. [1]
Nobody at Sleeplay has worn the AirTouch F40. This review pulls together what ResMed's user guide and product documents say, what our partners and customers have learned from the AirFit F40 and from ComfiSoft fabric on the AirTouch N30i, and what that means for choosing your next mask.
If you already know this is your mask, the ResMed AirTouch F40 Full Face CPAP Mask page lists the sizes Sleeplay carries; a prescription is required.

How We Put This Review Together
We sell ResMed masks, including the AirTouch F40, so this review comes from a store that carries it. This review is not based on wearing the mask: Sleeplay staff do not test masks, and nobody at Sleeplay has worn the AirTouch F40. Every spec here comes from ResMed's own documents (tools familiar to providers using AirView, ResMed's remote monitoring platform), including the user guide, the product guide for providers, the patient brochure, the ComfiSoft poster, ResMed's online store and the launch press release. Where we describe how the design feels in use, we draw on two masks that share its parts: the AirFit F40, which shares its compact design, headgear and cushion sizes, and the AirTouch N30i, which uses the same ComfiSoft fabric. Those impressions come from our partners, our YouTube collaborators, and Sleeplay customer reviews, and each one is labeled. Aliria Perez, CRT, reviewed this article for accuracy.
Our Verdict So Far
This verdict comes from ResMed's documents and from partner and customer experience with the AirFit F40 and the AirTouch N30i, not from wearing the AirTouch F40.
Pros:
- A fabric-fused ComfiSoft cushion on the compact, under-the-nose AirFit F40 design. [3]
- The cushion fits the AirFit F40, so current users can try fabric without being refitted. [1]
- Same cushion sizes, headgear, pressure range, and vent sound rating as the AirFit F40. [5]
- A low frame that lets you read, watch TV, or wear glasses in bed. [3]
- In ResMed's pooled studies, people rated its fabric masks higher than the silicone versions for comfort and seal; this is ResMed's own data. [7]
Cons:
- Magnets in the frame and clips rule it out for people with certain implants and for anyone in close contact with them. [5]
- Not compatible with the ResMed AirMini. [6]
- Hand wash only, without a bristle brush; fabric may take longer to dry, and pilling or fraying may occur. [5]
- The comfort evidence so far is ResMed's own data on file, not a peer-reviewed study [3], and no partner or Sleeplay customer has reported on the AirTouch F40 itself yet.
Bottom line: if the AirFit F40 fits you and you want fabric against your skin, ResMed's documents make the AirTouch F40 a simple swap: the same cushion size on your current frame and headgear. If you have a magnet-sensitive implant or use an AirMini, look elsewhere.
What Is the ResMed AirTouch F40?
The ResMed AirTouch F40 is a minimalist full-face CPAP mask featuring a minimalist design with a soft ComfiSoft cushion that fuses fabric with silicone. It sits under the nose to avoid pressure on the nasal bridge, and it uses the same compact design and headgear as the AirFit F40. ResMed calls it a go-to mask for new patients. [3] [2]
ResMed describes it as "a minimalist full face mask with a soft, fabric-fused silicone cushion" and says it "adds softness to the ultra-compact AirFit F40 design." [3] The design is under the nose, "which helps avoid pressure on the nasal bridge." [3]
The main parts are: [3]
- ComfiSoft cushion: fabric fused with silicone, described as soft, breathable, and moisture-wicking.
- AdaptiSeal: soft silicone that adapts to the face and is designed to keep the seal.
- QuietAir vent: diffused venting built into the cushion.
- Flexible frame: covered in soft nylon fabric padding and curved around the eyes, so you can read, watch TV, or wear glasses before bed.
- Magnetic clips: the lower headgear straps clip onto the frame with magnets.
- Quick-release elbow and short tube: you can disconnect from the hose without taking the mask off. [2]
Justin Leong, ResMed's Chief Product Officer, said at launch: "By building on the success of AirFit F40™ and introducing a new fabric option, we're giving people greater flexibility to choose the mask that works best for them." [1]
What Is a ComfiSoft Fabric Cushion?
ComfiSoft is ResMed's cushion material that fuses fabric with silicone, so fabric rather than bare silicone touches your skin. ResMed says the fabric is soft, breathable, and moisture-wicking. It is not memory foam: that is the older AirTouch F20 cushion. The AirTouch N30i and AirTouch F30i already use ComfiSoft. [3] [7] [8] [9]
Most of ResMed's evidence for the fabric comes from its other ComfiSoft masks, so read it with that in mind. In ResMed's own analysis of new U.S. patients tracked through its connected sleep health platform, 85.62% of AirTouch N30i users met the compliance standard (at least 4 hours a night on at least 70% of nights during any consecutive 30-day period within the first 90 days), compared with 79.96% of AirFit N30i users with a silicone cushion. That is about 6 percentage points higher; ResMed describes it as a 6% increase in 90-day compliance. The data is ResMed's own and comes from a nasal mask, not the AirTouch F40. [7] [1]
In a pooled analysis of six ResMed crossover studies (167 adults) comparing AirTouch N30i, AirTouch F30i and AirTouch F40 with their silicone versions, people rated the fabric masks higher for overall performance, overall comfort, cushion comfort and overall seal. This is ResMed's own data on file. [7]
What the fabric feels like in use, from people who have worn it on the AirTouch N30i:
"it actually is very thin fabric it's really kind of like an active wear fabric and it is moisture wicking"
— Kristen Cascio, a CPAP user who collaborates with Sleeplay on its YouTube channel, in her review of the AirTouch N30i
Sleeplay customers who wear the AirTouch N30i say similar things. Victoria wrote: "Not touching the silicone makes it more gentle on my skin." (Sleeplay customer review)
The trade-off is cleaning and drying. Kristen expected fabric to take longer to air dry than plain silicone, and Nick of CPAP Reviews, a sponsored Sleeplay partner and founder of SleepHQ (a brand Sleeplay sells), asked how you clean between the fabric and the silicone:
"it's going to take a little bit longer I'd imagine to air dry than just a straight up silicone"
— Kristen Cascio, a CPAP user who collaborates with Sleeplay on its YouTube channel, in her review of the AirTouch N30i
"how do you get between the fabric and the silicone to clean it"
— Nick of CPAP Reviews, a sponsored Sleeplay partner and founder of SleepHQ (a brand Sleeplay sells), in his review of the AirTouch N30i

AirTouch F40 vs AirFit F40: What Changes and What Stays
The AirTouch F40 and AirFit F40 share the same compact under-the-nose design, cushion sizes, headgear, pressure range, and quiet vent rating. The difference is the interchangeable cushion: the AirTouch F40 uses a fabric-fused ComfiSoft cushion, while the AirFit F40 uses a silicone cushion. ResMed says the cushions are interchangeable between the two masks. [5] [3]

If the AirFit F40 already works for you, the design itself will feel familiar. In his AirFit F40 review, Nick singled out the low frame shape that the AirTouch F40 keeps:
"low arching frame comes up very low under the eyes so it's great if you like to hop into bed read a book if you're wearing glasses or watch some TV"
— Nick of CPAP Reviews, a sponsored Sleeplay partner and founder of SleepHQ (a brand Sleeplay sells), in his review of the AirFit F40
One Sleeplay customer had already asked for exactly this mask. Rolando M., reviewing the AirFit F40, wrote: "Great mask, needs an AirTouch cushion to be perfect." (Sleeplay customer review)
For more on the silicone version, read our AirFit F40 review, and for how the two ResMed families differ in general, see ResMed AirTouch vs AirFit.
Are the AirTouch F40 and AirFit F40 Interchangeable?
Yes, their cushions are. ResMed says the AirTouch F40 cushion is interchangeable with the AirFit F40, so current AirFit F40 users can try the fabric cushion without changing mask systems, resizing, or refitting. Buy the AirTouch F40 cushion in the same size you use now, and keep your frame and headgear. [1] [5]
The AirTouch F40 ComfiSoft Replacement Cushion ($59, price checked November 2, 2026) comes with a QuietAir vent [11] and fits the AirFit F40 frame. [5] If you want a new front for the mask, the AirTouch F40 Frame System ($138, price checked November 2, 2026) includes the frame, cushion, elbow, and short tube, and works with your current F40 headgear, which uses the same part numbers (64633 to 64635). [3] [4] Replacement headgear is the same part for both masks: F40 replacement headgear ($34, price checked November 2, 2026).
AirTouch F40 Sizes and How to Fit It
The AirTouch F40 cushion comes in small-wide, medium, and large, and the headgear in small, standard, and large. The complete mask comes in five combinations: small-wide, medium, or large cushion with standard headgear, or a medium cushion with small or large headgear. Choose the cushion by how it fits under your nose. [3]
| Complete mask | Cushion | Headgear | ResMed code |
|---|---|---|---|
| AirTouch F40 SW/STD | Small-wide | Standard | 64700 |
| AirTouch F40 M/STD | Medium | Standard | 64701 |
| AirTouch F40 L/STD | Large | Standard | 64702 |
| AirTouch F40 M/SML | Medium | Small | 64703 |
| AirTouch F40 M/LGE | Medium | Large | 64704 |

On the AirFit F40, which uses the same cushion sizes, Nick found that the sizing comes down to the area under the nose:
"we're not measuring our mouth we're measuring this section here under the nose this is the most important part"
— Nick of CPAP Reviews, a sponsored Sleeplay partner and founder of SleepHQ (a brand Sleeplay sells), in his review of the AirFit F40

ResMed's fitting steps from the user guide: [5]
- Twist and pull both magnetic clips away from the frame magnets.
- Place the cushion under your nose and, with the ResMed logo on the headgear facing out, pull the headgear over your head.
- Bring the lower headgear straps under your ears and attach the magnetic clips to the frame.
- If the mask needs adjusting, undo the fastening tabs on the upper straps and pull evenly, then repeat with the lower straps.
Set your CPAP machine's mask setting to "Pillows": ResMed's guide says to select it on AirSense, AirCurve, and S9 devices (which track data in myAir), even though this is a full face mask. [5] For general sizing help, see our CPAP mask sizing guide.
What ResMed's Study Says
In a ResMed study of 36 adults already using full face masks, 32 completed it; 97% rated the AirTouch F40 easy or very easy to fit and adjust, and 91% rated it comfortable or very comfortable from the first fitting. ResMed ran the study in Sydney in 2025; the data are the company's own. [3] [2]
Participants had been on CPAP therapy compliance for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and used other full-face masks, most often the AirFit F20, AirTouch F20, and AirFit F30i. The study used the AirFit F40 as a benchmark and ran from September 23 to October 15, 2025. ResMed also states the mask is designed to fit 96% of people, based on its internal analysis of fit range. [3] [1]
These results are ResMed's own, from a short study, and ResMed cites them as data on file, not a peer-reviewed study. When our partners and Sleeplay customers share their experience with the AirTouch F40, we will add it to this review and label who said it.
Who the AirTouch F40 May Suit (and Who Should Look Elsewhere)
Based on ResMed's design and the experience of AirFit F40 and ComfiSoft users, it may suit you if:
- You need a full face mask but have struggled with comfort, fit or seal in other full face masks. [3]
- You feel pressure on the bridge of your nose with over-the-nose masks. [3]
- You are among side sleepers or like to read, watch TV, or wear glasses in bed. [3]
- You already use an AirFit F40 and want to try fabric without being refitted from their existing silicone-cushioned mask. [1]
Look at other options if:
- You or anyone in close contact while you use the mask has an implant that interacts with magnets (see the magnet section below). [5]
- You use a ResMed AirMini: the AirTouch F40 is not compatible with it. [6]
- You want a cushion you can scrub: the fabric cushion is hand wash only, without a bristle brush, and fabric may take longer to dry than silicone. [5]
Other soft full-face options include the AirTouch F30i Comfort ($184, price checked November 2, 2026), and you can compare every style in our guide to the best full-face CPAP masks or browse all full-face CPAP masks.
How to Clean the AirTouch F40
ResMed says to clean the cushion, elbow, short tube, and vent ring daily, and the headgear and frame weekly, by soaking in warm water with a mild liquid detergent. The AirTouch F40 fabric cushion is hand wash only, without a bristle brush. Do not use a dishwasher or washing machine; ResMed says ozone and UV cleaners are not validated. [5]
ResMed's guide also notes that "pilling and fraying of fabric components may occur and do not affect performance of the mask." Ozone or UV products "have not been validated for use with the mask and may lead to discoloration or damage." [5] Squeeze the water out of the fabric parts and let each part air-dry out of direct sunlight before you put the mask back together; fabric parts may need more drying time than silicone. Gentle CPAP mask wipes ($11.95, price checked November 2, 2026) are handy between washes, to keep your CPAP equipment clean.
Magnets: Read This Before You Buy
The AirTouch F40 has magnets in the frame and the lower headgear clips. ResMed says masks with magnetic parts are contraindicated if you, or anyone in close physical contact while you use the mask, have active implants that interact with magnets, such as pacemakers, implantable defibrillators, neurostimulators, CSF shunts, or insulin pumps. [5]
The same contraindication covers metallic implants or objects with ferromagnetic material, such as aneurysm clips, embolic coils, stents, valves, electrodes, implants to restore hearing or balance with implanted magnets, ocular implants, and metallic splinters in the eye. ResMed says to keep the magnets at least 6 inches (150 mm) from implants or medical devices that magnets may affect, and notes the mask is MR unsafe and must stay outside MRI rooms. [5] If you are unsure, ask your doctor before buying, and see our guide to CPAP masks for people with pacemakers or defibrillators.
