View All DetailsThe NightOwl is a multi-night home sleep apnea test (HSAT) for adults 22 and older who suspect they may have obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). A small fingertip sensor records your data while you sleep, and a licensed physician reviews the results and provides a medical report, without a single night in a sleep lab.
The Sleeplay process includes everything you need from start to finish. You begin with an online questionnaire and a virtual consultation with a licensed physician, who evaluates whether a home sleep study is appropriate for you and orders the device. After wearing the sensor at home for up to 10 nights, a physician reviews your recorded data. If OSA is diagnosed, you receive a valid prescription (Rx) you can use to purchase a CPAP machine. You do not need to bring your own prescription to start.
The sensor measures peripheral arterial tone (PAT), blood oxygen saturation via photoplethysmography (PPG-based oximetry), pulse rate, and actigraphy (body movement via an accelerometer to distinguish sleep from wakefulness). These signals are combined to calculate your Apnea-Hypopnea Index (AHI), the standard clinical measure of sleep apnea severity. The manufacturer describes strong agreement with in-lab polysomnography (PSG) for AHI measurement.
Unlike a single-night test, the NightOwl records up to 10 nights of data for a single patient, capturing the natural night-to-night variability in breathing that one recording can miss. Each box includes single-use adhesive tape strips, one per night, and the device records up to 10 nights based on an average of about 8 hours of sleep per night.
The myAir app (iOS and Android) handles setup, starts the recording, and transfers your data securely to the ResMed cloud each morning for auto-scoring and physician review. The NightOwl is FSA/HSA eligible.
