Travel CPAP Machines

Travel CPAP Machines: Therapy That Fits in Your Carry-On

A travel CPAP machine delivers the same prescribed therapy as your home unit, the same 4 to 20 cm H2O of pressure, in a body small and light enough to pack. Most use waterless humidification (a heat-and-moisture exchanger), so there is no tank to fill and no distilled water to carry. They are made for flights, road trips, camping, and any night away from your usual setup.

Shopping highlights: the Transcend Micro is the lightest at about 0.48 lb, and the ResMed AirMini pairs with the ResMed app and its own travel mask kits. Want our full ranked breakdown? Read the 2026 travel CPAP guide, or compare the two most popular head to head: AirMini vs Transcend Micro.

Compare travel CPAP machines

Machine Weight Noise Humidification Auto / Fixed Battery
ResMed AirMini 10.6 oz 29 dBA Waterless (HumidX) Auto + fixed No built-in; needs power (RPS II optional)
Transcend Micro 0.48 lb 27 dBA Waterless (AirMist) Auto Optional PowerAway
Transcend Micro 510 0.49 lb 27 dBA Waterless (AirMist) Auto Optional PowerAway
Luna TravelPAP 14.1 oz Under 30 dBA See product page CPAP + Auto See product page

Every machine here runs a 4 to 20 cm H2O pressure range and is FAA-compliant for use on board (the AirMini has no internal battery, so it needs an onboard power source; check each product page for its FAA compliance letter). None has a built-in battery, optional batteries are available for some, and runtime depends on your pressure, so see the product page. For power options, see CPAP batteries.

FAQs

Are travel CPAP machines as effective as a full-size machine?

Yes. Travel CPAP machines deliver the same prescribed therapy, the same 4 to 20 cm H2O pressure range, as a home unit. The main trade-offs are a smaller motor and waterless humidification instead of a heated water tank, not weaker therapy. They are built for use away from home, not as a budget replacement for your nightly machine.

Can I use a travel CPAP machine on an airplane?

Yes. These machines are FAA-compliant for in-flight use, and a CPAP does not count as one of your carry-on bags. Keep the FAA compliance letter (in the product guide) handy. One caveat: the ResMed AirMini has no internal battery, so onboard use needs a power source. Our flying with a CPAP guide covers TSA and the details.

Do travel CPAP machines need distilled water?

No. Most travel CPAPs use waterless humidification (a heat-and-moisture exchanger that recycles moisture from your own breath), so there is no tank to fill and no distilled water to pack. That is one of the biggest advantages of a travel unit on the road.

Do I need a prescription to buy a travel CPAP machine?

Yes. In the United States, CPAP machines are prescription devices. You can upload your prescription at checkout or have your provider send it to us, and our team can help if you are not sure what you need.

Will my current mask fit a travel CPAP machine?

Most travel CPAPs use a standard 22 mm mask connection, so your current mask will usually fit, including the Transcend Micro, Transcend Micro 510, and Luna TravelPAP. The ResMed AirMini is the exception: it uses its own AirMini-specific mask setups, so plan to pair it with an AirMini-compatible mask.

Which travel CPAP is the lightest and the quietest?

By manufacturer specs, the Transcend Micro is both the lightest, at about 0.48 lb, and the quietest of our travel machines at 27 dBA, with the ResMed AirMini at 29 dBA. See the comparison table above, and our ranked guide for the full picture.

Do travel CPAP machines have a battery?

None of these machines has a built-in battery. Optional batteries are available for some models (for example the Transcend PowerAway), and the AirMini uses an external ResMed power station. Battery runtime depends on your pressure and setup, so check the product page and our CPAP battery options.
