Key Differences Between the AirSense 10 and the Airsense 11

Whether you’re new to sleep apnea and this is your first time buying a CPAP machine, or you’re considering upgrading your current machine, you should be aware of the main differences between these two models to make the best choice for your needs.

Let’s explore some key differences between both models.

Personal Therapy Assistant

One of the most notable features of the AirSense 11 is the Personal Therapy Assistant built-in software that guides you through your CPAP therapy and helps you optimize your settings and comfort. The Personal Therapy Assistant can:

  • ●Provide you with a video tutorial on how to set up and use your CPAP machine.
  • ●Assess your sleep quality every morning.
  • ●Adjust your pressure settings automatically based on your feedback and sleep data.
  • ●Send your therapy data to the cloud via WiFi or cellular connection.
  • ●Give you access to your data and progress on the MyAir app or website.
  • ●Enable remote troubleshooting and software updates from your provider.

Smart Start

The Smart Start feature allows you to start your therapy automatically by simply putting on your mask and breathing. This feature is included in both models, but the AirSense 11 has an improved Smart Start feature, which can detect if your mask is on or off more accurately and prevent false starts and stops.

Power Consumption

The AirSense 11 has a more energy-efficient power supply that uses only 65 watts, compared to the 90 watts of the AirSense 10. This means that the AirSense 11 consumes less electricity and generates less heat, benefiting your wallet and the environment.

Climate Control

One of the most important features of a CPAP machine is the climate control system, which regulates the temperature and humidity level of the air delivered to your CPAP mask. Both the AirSense 10 and the AirSense 11 have a humidification system that consists of two components: a heated humidifier and heated tubing.

  • ●Heated tubing: the ClimateLineAir tube prevents condensation and rainout inside the mask and the tubing. This tube has a sensor that measures the temperature of the air in the tube and adjusts it according to your settings and the room temperature. It is included with the AirSense 10, and it can be added to the AirSense 11.
  • ●Heated humidifier: HumidAir is the humidifier that’s integrated into both machines. It adds moisture to the air to prevent dryness and irritation in your nose and throat. The AirSense 11 has a redesigned water chamber with a shorter height and a broader base, making it more stable and less prone to spills.

For Her Therapy Mode

One of the most unique features of ResMed’s CPAP machines is the For Her Therapy Mode, which is specially designed for women who have sleep apnea. The For Her mode has a lower starting air pressure and a gentler pressure increase rate than the standard mode, making it more comfortable for women who prefer lower pressure settings.

The AirSense 10 has a specific model called the AirSense 10 AutoSet For Her that has this feature, while the AirSense 11 comes with this feature built into all models. This means you can switch between the standard mode and the For Her mode on any AirSense 11 machine, giving you more flexibility in your sleep therapy.

Key Similarities Between the AirSense 10 and the AirSense 11

These CPAP machines also have a lot of features in common that aim to create a user-friendly experience. These features will give you the best results, regardless of which model you choose. These features are:

AutoSet Algorithm

The AutoSet algorithm automatically adjusts the pressure level according to your breathing patterns and needs throughout the night. This ensures that you get the optimal therapy for your sleep apnea without having to manually change the settings or use a fixed air pressure level.

AutoRamp with Sleep Onset Detection

AutoRamp gradually increases the air pressure from a low starting level until it reaches your prescribed pressure. This helps you fall asleep more comfortably and smoothly without feeling overwhelmed by high air pressure at the beginning of your therapy.

The sleep onset detection feature also ensures that the ramp time is only activated when you are actually asleep, so you don’t waste time waiting for the air pressure to build up.

CSA, RERA and CSR Detection

Both models are capable of detecting and reporting different types of sleep-disordered breathing events, such as central sleep apnea (CSA), respiratory effort-related arousals (RERA) and Cheyne-Stokes respiration (CSR). These events can indicate more complex forms of sleep apnea that may require a different type of therapy or additional treatment.

AutoSet Response Comfort Setting

The AutoSet Response Comfort setting allows you to customize how quickly or gently the air pressure changes in response to your breathing patterns.

You can choose between the soft and standard modes, depending on how sensitive you are to pressure changes and how often you experience awakenings during your therapy. The soft mode provides a slower and smoother pressure increase, while the standard mode provides a faster and more direct air pressure increase.

Does the AirSense 11 Use the Same Supplies as the AirSense 10?

If you’re looking to upgrade from the AirSense 10 to the AirSense 11, you may be wondering about the compatibility with the CPAP supplies you already have. Both CPAP machines are compatible with all currently available ResMed CPAP masks. However, this is not the case for other CPAP supplies.

The AirSense 10 and the AirSense 11 use different tubes, which means you won’t be able to use the ClimateLineAir Oxy heated tubing from your AirSense 10 with your AirSense 11. If you want heated tubing in your AirSense 11, you need the ClimateLineAir, which is made for this model.

Also, the AirSense 11 device uses a new filter design that’s different from the one in the AirSense 10. The filter for the AirSense 11 is smaller and thinner, and it has a blue tab that makes it easy to insert and remove. The AirSense 10 filter is larger and thicker, and it has a white tab.

Which Machine Should I Choose? The ResMed AirSense 10 or the ResMed AirSense 11?

If you’re looking for a new CPAP machine, it may be difficult to choose between the AirSense 10 and the AirSense 11. Both are designed to provide comfortable and effective therapy for sleep apnea, but depending on your wants and needs, you may become more inclined to get one or the other.

The ResMed AirSense 10 has a simple and intuitive interface, a built-in humidifier, and a range of advanced features, such as AutoRamp, Smart Start, and EPR. It also connects to the myAir app, which allows you to track your therapy data and get personalized feedback and tips.

Should I Switch to the AirSense 11 if I Already Have the AirSense 10?

The answer to this question will vary from person to person, depending on your unique sleep apnea situation, your preferences, and what your doctor recommends.

If you recently bought your AirSense 10 and are satisfied with its performance so far, maybe it’s a good idea to stay put for the time being. However, if you’re looking for something new with added features or have had your AirSense 10 for several years, a switch could be great!

New Features of the AirSense 11

This model has many new features designed to enhance your sleep apnea therapy experience, taking what the AirSense 10 already does, and elevating it. Some of these features are:

Size and Design

The AirSense 11 has a sleeker design without sacrificing any features or power. It eliminates the sharp corners to offer a smoother and less conspicuous look.

Test Drive

This feature is available through the myAir app, and it allows you to experience different therapy settings over a short period of time. It can also be used to check your mask’s seal.

Personal Therapy Assistant

This new feature provides videos and voice guidance to help you set up the equipment, along with solutions to the most common issues you can encounter with this CPAP machine.

Therapy Algorithms

The AirSense 11 has the For Her mode built-in, which makes CPAP therapy more comfortable for female users—who may be more sensitive to sudden or harsh air pressure changes.

Whether you choose the AirSense 10’s proven dependability or the AirSense 11’s technological innovation, rest assured: you will be getting the best of the best in CPAP treatment.
