  • Do not place the V-Com™ device in an active breathing circuit as this could possibly affect algorithms for auto-titration and respiratory event detection.
    • Always turn flow-generating device off first, place V-Com™ device in the breathing circuit, and then turn flow-generating device back on.
      • V-Com™ affects inspiratory PAP more than expiratory PAP which may decrease pressure support and tidal volume during NIV therapy.
        • V-Com™ has not been tested in adaptive servo ventilation and average volume-adjusted pressure support breathing circuits.

FAQs

How does the V-Com work?

It is a small insert you place inline between your mask and hose. It softens the peak inspiratory flow (the strong push when you breathe in) while leaving your expiratory pressure (EPAP) essentially unchanged. The effect is passive and flow-based, with no settings or electronics.

Does it lower my prescribed therapy pressure?

It mainly eases the feel of the inhale and does not significantly reduce your expiratory pressure. It is a comfort accessory, not a change to your prescription. Do not change your machine settings without talking to your clinician.

How is it different from EPR or exhalation relief?

EPR lowers the pressure when you breathe out. The V-Com works on the opposite phase: it softens the inhale while preserving EPAP. The two can be used together.

How do I install it safely?

Turn your CPAP off first, place the V-Com inline between the hose and mask, then turn the machine back on. Inserting it while the machine is running can affect auto-adjusting and event-detection algorithms.

Can I use it with BiPAP or ASV?

On bilevel therapy it can reduce pressure support and tidal volume, so use it carefully and with your clinician's guidance. It has not been tested with ASV or AVAPS machines.

Does it come in different sizes or strengths?

It is a single model. If you want a stronger effect, some users place two units in series; check with your clinician before doing so.

Do I need a prescription?

No. The V-Com is a comfort accessory to your prescribed CPAP, APAP, or bilevel therapy and does not require its own prescription.

How do I clean and replace it?

Wash it with mild soap and warm water and let it air dry. Replace it about every three months, or sooner if it looks worn.
