Carlos Torres
Board-Certified ENT & Sleep Specialist
Dr. Torre, MD is a board-certified Otolaryngologist–Head and Neck Surgeon and sleep surgery specialist with extensive expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and other sleep-related breathing disorders.
He earned his medical degree from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine and completed the Advanced Training in Clinical Research fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), where he developed a strong interest in sleep surgery. Dr. Torre later joined the University of Miami as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, where he served as Director of the Sleep Surgery Program and as a faculty member in the Sleep Medicine Division. During his academic career, he trained residents and fellows while helping establish one of the nation's few comprehensive multidisciplinary sleep surgery programs.
Dr. Torre has been a leader in advancing evidence-based treatment for sleep apnea, introducing innovative approaches including Drug-Induced Sleep Endoscopy (DISE), hypoglossal nerve stimulation (HGNS), and skeletal surgery for OSA. His clinical philosophy focuses on identifying and treating the underlying causes of sleep-disordered breathing rather than simply managing symptoms.
An active researcher and educator, Dr. Torre has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications on obstructive sleep apnea, nasal breathing optimization, and sleep surgery, and has presented his work at national and international medical conferences. He serves on the Sleep Medicine Committee of the American Academy of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery and contributed to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine task force responsible for developing clinical guidelines for sleep apnea surgery.
As a member of Sleeplay's Editorial Team, Dr. Torre reviews and helps develop medically accurate, evidence-based educational content to ensure patients receive trustworthy information about sleep apnea, CPAP therapy, and sleep health.
