CPAP Machines FAQ

Everything you need to know about CPAP Machines

What is a CPAP Machine?

A CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) machine is a device used to treat sleep apnea by providing a constant flow of air pressure through a mask to help keep the airways open and allow for easier breathing during sleep.

What is the difference between CPAP, APAP & BiPAP?

CPAP: Delivers constant air pressure to keep airways open during sleep.

APAP: It stands for Automatic Positive Airway Pressure, It is similar to CPAP but the pressure delivered changes automatically based on the needs of the patient. APAP machines can detect changes in breathing and adjust the pressure in real-time to provide the minimum pressure required for a given moment.

BiPAP: Bilevel Positive Airway Pressure, is also similar to CPAP but delivers two pressure settings: a higher pressure for inhaling and a lower pressure for exhaling. Used for more complicated sleep apnea.

Note: Appropriate device is determined by healthcare provider based on sleep study and other factors.

What are the side effects of using a CPAP machine?

The most common side effects of CPAP therapy include:

Dry mouth or nose, skin irritation, claustrophobia, nasal congestion or irritation, bloating and abdominal discomfort, and headaches.

These can often be managed with adjustments to the machine or additional equipment. Consult your doctor if experiencing any side effects.

How to get a CPAP machine without a sleep study?

We offer the Night Owl Home Sleep Test to diagnose sleep apnea. If the patient qualifies for a CPAP machine based on the test results, the cost of the test can be deducted from the machine order. This makes the process more effective and straightforward.

What connects to the CPAP machine?

A CPAP machine is typically connected to:

A mask via a tube to deliver continuous air flow for sleep apnea treatment. (nasal, full-face, or nasal pillow)

Hose, filter, power cord, and optional features like a humidifier or heated tube.

Can you finance a CPAP machine?

We offer Bread, Shop Pay, and Afterpay financing options to make purchasing a CPAP machine more affordable and manageable.

What comes included with a CPAP machine?

A CPAP machine comes with the following: The machine, the power adapter with cable, user manual, and a standard CPAP tubing.
